Here at Hunter and Lola, we strive to offer the best quality, ethically sourced, and design-led products and materials for our customers. The majority of our products are 100% designed, hand-crafted, and beautifully packaged in-house by Hunter and Lola.
Our aim is to show our customers that buying handmade gives you a unique, high quality, and original item - that not only can't be found on the high street, but also enables you to support a range of small businesses and conservation projects through your purchase.
Anyone that knows me personally knows that I'm a big nature lover, and most of our free time is spent outdoors come rain, shine or snow! We're very fortunate to live with a vast National Trust nature reserve and woodland surrounding our home - which offers a lovely evening walking spot for us during the summer months. As well as living down the road from both a local country park, and Abberton Reservoir - one of Europe's top Wildlife Trust reserves, with 25 hectares of wetland habitat.
We think that enjoying and protecting our environment is pretty important - so for 2020 we decided that we wanted Hunter and Lola to reflect our passion for the outdoors, by working towards being a greener business, and supporting the world's environment.
As part of our goal to be as green as possible, we want to become a plastic-free business by the end of 2020. Obviously making big changes like this takes time, so we're currently working our way through our old packaging stock - and once depleted, we're proud to be rolling out a range of completely plastic-free, and fully recyclable packaging materials over the next few months. Find out more about our materials and packaging here.
As well as making changes to become a more eco-conscious brand, and eradicate plastic from our packaging - we wanted to find a conservation project that not only enabled us to further reduce our carbon footprint, but that also gave us the opportunity to do more good in the world - whilst still staying true to our love for the outdoors. After lots of research, we stumbled upon Offset Earth.
Offset Earth allows you to fund various climate projects around the world that take positive steps towards reducing our CO2 pollution - as well as creating employment for local families, and restoring wildlife habitats around the world. Some of their recent projects include reforestation in Madagascar and Kenya, installing solar farms in India, and wind farms in India, Turkey and Indonesia to name a few!
All projects that Offset Earth invest in are Gold Standard certified - a certification body that works to ensure that every penny of climate and development funding goes as far as it can. They also work alongside The Eden Projects - who's work reduces extreme poverty, and restores healthy forests by employing local villagers to plant millions of trees every year. You can read more about Offset Earth's current projects here.
It's scientifically proven that one of the best tools to tackle the climate crisis and keep our temperatures from rising above 1.5C is to plant trees. Sustainable reforestation projects such those run by the Eden Reforestation Project work to reduce extreme poverty forests by employing local villagers to plant millions of trees every year - supporting both our eco-system, and the local economy with safe and ethical work environments. Which is why we think that it's important to support the continued work of these reforestation projects around the world.
From 1st February 2020, for every order placed with Hunter and Lola, we will plant one tree on your behalf in a conversation project around the world. If you'd like to find out more about our donated trees, such as where they've been planted - you can see our forests progress at any time by visiting our Offset Earth profile here.
As part of our enrolment in Offset Earth, we're super proud to be a part of these conversation projects, and are recognised by their Climate Positive Workforce badge - meaning that all of our eco-positive actions work towards a greener environment.
Offset Earth isn't just for businesses though! You too can get involved, either by donating additional trees via our forest profile, or by signing up yourself as a regular contributor. You can even add your own eco-goals to your profile to keep track of your lifestyle changes, and see the impact that your donations have made throughout the year.
